FC Barcelona unveils new 2019/2020 font
Previewed during Frenkie de Jong presentation
July 8th, 2019
The new font for FC Barcelona for the 2019/2020 season was unveiled during the presentation ceremony of Frenkie de Jong. For two years, the RFEF - Spanish Football Federation - has chosen to adopt the Premier League model, which provides for the use of only one font for all teams.
If the Blaugrana team has used the La Liga character in Champions League matches in recent years, the names of Messi, Suarez, Pique and teammates will be written in the Barcelona Play font next season. The new stylistic choice will, in fact, be applied for European competitions, for friendly matches and for a possible Rey del Cup final, as well as from other professional teams in society such as basketball, handball, field hockey, and futsal.
It is the first time that Barça has designed a custom font, not by adopting the official ones created by Nike. The inspiration comes from the modernist artistic currents typical of the Catalan city, the visual effect on the jersey is that of strong decorativeness, also thanks to the use of yellow, a classic for FC Barcelona jerseys that will also characterize the design of the new Away jersey, presented in the last hours.
The figures and letters are finished with a thin line in the center, while the team's crest is inserted only in the lower part of the numbers.
This is a choice of strong personality that of Barcelona, the new font will also be used for advertising and communication campaigns, further strengthening the identity of the club.
