The new São Paulo kit for the adidas' 70th birthday
The special-edition jersey is inspired by an unforgettable 90s shirt
November 6th, 2019
After appointing Adriano as the new sales director, adidas Brasil decided to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the brand's foundation, precisely on 18 August 1949 in Herzogenaurach. For this special date a brand new jersey was created for one of the most historic Brazilian teams, São Paulo. The shirt, worn by Dani Alves for the shooting campaign, will not be part of the club's match kits, but will be used only as a pre-match jersey, thus supporting the recent trend that concerns original and unique creations for the training jerseys. In reality it's a bigger project, an adidas initiative that will also involve other South American clubs currently sponsored (River Plate, Millionarios and Flamengo, of which some photos have already been leaked online).
The adidas São Paulo "70 Years of 3 Stripes" jersey is based on the club's traditional colours (red, white and black) and it features the iconic adidas 1990 design on the front (made famous because of the Germany's shirt for Italia 90). The jersey is based on the adidas Campeon 19 model template, similar to the Mannschaft kit worn during the last World Cup and also for some kits designed fot this season (for example the Leicester Away shirt).
