In the FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea played with a commemorative kit designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the FA Cup triumph of 1970. The shirt was inspired by the one used in the final played against Leeds and won by the Blues 2-1. The kit faithfully reproduces the blue of the historic jersey, accompanied by the gold yellow featured on the original kit. The jersey is in fact the fourth one made by Nike for Chelsea this season, which follows the third kit also inspired by the past.
The jersey does not have the current logo but a stylized version of the one used in the 1970 final, with the iconic yellow lion above the initials 'C.F.C.'. The kit features the Nike, Yokohama Tyres and Hyundai logos - although there were no sponsors in the original version -, but they're in tonal blue, making them barely perceptible. Yellow inserts and socks and a font that faithfully reproduces the big numbers sewn on the 1970 jersey complete the kit. In addition to the fourth jersey, Nike and Chelsea also unveiled a collection entirely dedicated to the 50th anniversary, which includes a training apparel and a series of items (hoodies, polo shirts, jackets and t-shirts) that pay homage to the historic final.
Legends inspire the future. Today we’ll be wearing the new @NikeFootball FA Cup anniversary kit that celebrates 50 years since our first triumph in the competition.
