Borussia Dortmund turns black for next match
A tribute to the city and its history in a new shirt designed by PUMA

Coal and steel have disappeared, but their unifying element, the fire that unites them, will never fade. And precisely for this reason, in the upcoming home match against Hertha BSC, Borussia Dortmund will once again reaffirm its history and its bond with the city with a new jersey featuring a black coal motif and steel-style flocking designed of course by PUMA. In the past century when the nation was a world power in industrialisation, all the citizens of Dortmund worked hard to build the city and also BVB. These people and their virtues are still appreciated today, and it is for these reasons that the German brand has decided to pay homage to the club in this way, extolling its history through a shirt that can undoubtedly stand as a candidate to be one of the best of the season.
"Not for nothing is the jersey reminiscent of the special 'Coal and Steel' jersey from 2019. Also because of the many requests and requests to reprint such a jersey, we decided to relaunch it and hope to please many fans," says CEO Carsten Cramer.
The exclusive jersey that the team will wear on Sunday against Hertha BSC features a charcoal black pattern, but the most interesting part is undoubtedly the pattern, which features a steel motif with an integrated city map. For the occasion, the BVB logo and the logos of the partners and the Bundesliga are in black to blend in. The fans are therefore satisfied, the blackout is back in vogue since last time some users sold the kit on eBay for over €1,900. In fact, in 2019 Borussia had created a very similar jersey, inspired by the Ruhr industrial district, in which Dortmund became one of the centres for coal mining and production.
