Straight lines are back for the new Atlético Madrid home kit
To celebrate club's 120th anniversary, Atleti returns to tradition and old logo
July 3rd, 2023
If there is any team that has attempted to undergo complete rebranding in the past years, that would certainly have to be Atlético Madrid. First came the controversial logo change of 2016, which, to the fans’ dismay, erased key parts of the club’s identity. The logo was recently brought back to the version that had stood for almost 70 years between 1947 and 2016. Then, just last year in 2022, officials decided to change Atlético’s iconic straight red and white stripes for a more curved, wavy version. This had never happened in club history, and combined with the change, it became too much for the fans to bear.
After voting for the old, historic logo to make its return, fans will be happy to see Atlético’s new kit for the 2023-2024: a simple design, with straight stripes as per usual, with a completely red back, sleeves, and collar. With the slogan "Puro Atleti", this is a definite move away from unwanted innovation by the directors of the club, and proves that in some way, football still belongs to the fans. Out with the new, in with the old. Tradition never dies, some things are designed to last.
