The new Atletico Madrid jersey pays tribute to the Double of the 1995/96 season
In addition to featuring the old club crest
July 11th, 2024
In a season that will see the return of the Atletico Madrid crest launched in 1947, a symbol of pride and belonging for all the club's fans, the new Home jersey for the 2024/25 season pays tribute to a legendary moment in the history of the Colchoneros. Specifically, it pays homage the 1995/96 season when the team added a Double to its palmarès by winning LaLiga and the Copa Del Rey. The new jersey mixes tradition and modernity thanks to the new Nike collar - in blue - and the innovative red and blue lines that run vertically across the jersey, departing from those presented in previous seasons. It is the renewed design of the stripes that harkens back to the Double season and the special jersey that the team wore in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
The match against the Blaugrana took place on April 10, 1996, at La Romareda in Zaragoza, where Atleti emerged victorious thanks to Milinko Pantic's header during extra time. The second trophy of the Double arrived a month and a half later, thanks to a 2-0 victory against Albacete at the Vicente Calderón on the final day of the LaLiga season. History has it that it was the club's current coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, and Francisco Narváez who scored on that day. Atletico Madrid is the second top Spanish club after Real Madrid to present the Home jersey. While we await the new home jersey presentation from Nike's other sponsored club, Barcelona, thanks to Swoosh's work with the Colchoneros, we have every reason to expect an excellent job.
