AC Milan's new jersey for the 125th anniversary
Inspired by the one from 1899
December 4th, 2024
The year 2024 marks the 125th anniversary of AC Milan, which will be celebrated with the launch of a new commemorative "Anniversary" jersey. This special kit will be worn during the league match scheduled for December against Genoa, in the Devil's home, the iconic atmosphere of San Siro. The jersey faithfully reproduces the details of the first kit in the club's history, starting with the width of the stripes, and replaces the current crest with the one used during the first eight years of Milan's history, from 1899 to 1907. This crest features the inscription Milan Football and Cricket Club. While it is, of course, a PUMA product, the German brand's logo has been removed from the traditional position and placed on the sleeve as well as on a special white-and-gold tag, designed specifically for this jersey and located at the lower part of the kit. Meanwhile, the current AC Milan emblem is positioned on the back neck.
With this launch, AC Milan presents its fourth kit in the final months of 2024, following the Home, Away, and Third kits for the 2024/25 season. Additionally, it builds great anticipation for the next kit, which will be unveiled, as has become tradition, at the beginning of 2025 in collaboration with a surprise fashion brand. With this initiative, AC Milan expands its range of anniversary jerseys, which the club and its technical sponsor continue to create season after season. These projects remain faithful to tradition while pursuing meticulous work aimed at replicating, as closely as possible, the aesthetics of the most iconic kits in history, reinterpreted with cutting-edge materials.
We had the opportunity to speak with Alonso Sanchez, PUMA's Head of Product, who oversaw the jersey creation process. Sanchez explained how it was natural for PUMA to decide to remove its logo from the traditional position and instead place it on the sleeve: “AC Milan is a club with a great history, so as a brand, we understood that it wouldn’t be an issue to make our logo less visible.” He also mentioned that the design team had to pay special attention to the font: “Serie A has very precise standards regarding fonts, so we had to make some adjustments. We couldn’t replicate exactly the vintage touch of a jersey from 125 years ago, but we came as close as possible.”
The 125th Anniversary kit is available starting today at all official AC Milan stores, on the AC Milan and PUMA websites, and through selected retailers worldwide.
