After more than 10 years of sponsorship, the paths of Nike and the Greece national football team will part ways: the latter is preparing to sign a contract with adidas, which will officially begin in 2026, a crucial year for both national teams worldwide and sportswear brands, which have moved ahead of time to secure the best teams. Some have also chosen to finalize sponsorship deals that will come into effect immediately after the 2026 World Cup, such as the case of Germany with Nike, probably the most talked-about move so far. Many other changes have followed, including Portugal's switch to PUMA, Uruguay's move to Nike, and now Greece: a new-old sponsorship that inevitably brings to mind the historic 2004 European Championship, with Angelos Charisteas's header that sealed the decisive 1-0.

The choice of the Greece national football team to embark on this new journey with Nike may have been influenced by production and distribution issues with the team’s kits by the Swoosh, likely due to the fact that the national team was not qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and thus, was not considered a priority. Unlike Nike, adidas may provide the Greece national football team with bespoke kits, backed by a strong heritage that connects the two sides, thanks to a trophy so significant that it shaped the football imagination of an entire country.
