The German national team celebrates 125 years of history
A special jersey that will be worn for the first time against Italy
March 17th, 2025
Waiting to let go after almost fifty years, German National Team, adidas celebrates the 125th anniversary of the German Football Association (DFB) with a limited collection. A journey back in time thanks to the design that recalls the retro jersey of 1974, the year in which the German men's national team won the World Cup at home. Both the color combination and the silhouette of the 125th anniversary jersey reflect the history of the DFB: the jersey is in the classic black and white colors for the players, while the goalkeeper's jersey is in blue. The kit is made of pinstriped fabric and features cuffs, a round neckline, and a printed flag on the collar. The chest of the jersey is adorned with the adidas Trefoil logo and a specially embroidered emblem to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the DFB, in reference to the special plaque hung in the founding location of the association in Leipzig.
The accompanying cultural clothing collection is inspired by the half-zip jersey worn by the founder of the sportswear company Adolf Dassler in the famous photo with the first soccer shoes with studs, a testament to the long history that unites adidas and the German Federation. The collection symbolizes the great emotions and special moments that German soccer fans have experienced together and includes short and long-sleeved versions of an exclusive anniversary jersey, as well as shorts, socks, and a range of cultural clothing products.
With the title "The stuff of legends", adidas announced today the launch campaign for the jersey with a video that brings together former and current legends of the 125 years of history of the DFB, including Jule Brand, Nia Künzer, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Rudi Völler, and Florian Wirtz. The jersey will be worn for the first time by the German men's national team on March 20 in Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against Italy, in one of the classic matches that has made history in European soccer between national teams.
