For the first time, it will be possible to print on the jerseys the font from the period 2007-2017

The wave of retro mania in football shows no signs of slowing down, and in fact in England a new option is arriving that will make the most nostalgic fans of jerseys happy. Avery Dennison, the official supplier of names, numbers and emblems for the sleeves of the Premier League, has announced the launch of the official retro font for the 2007-2017 period. In response to high demand from fans for authentic retro jerseys, for the first time an officially available font from the past is returning for clubs and retailers, also to combat the proliferation of fakes and counterfeits on the secondary market. Differentiated from the current Premier League font, the 2007-2017 design was characterized by a bold and angular style with sharp edges and a more condensed shape, making it immediately recognizable. Its strong and clean lines ensured high visibility on the pitch, while maintaining a classic aesthetic that has remained in the hearts of fans.
It is no coincidence that this coincided with one of the happiest moments of the English top league, which in that decade established itself as one of the most competitive and began to attract an increasing number of top players. This brings back the possibility of writing the names of Cristiano Ronaldo, Drogba, Hazard, Gerard or Balotelli using the exact specifications to guarantee maximum authenticity and quality. "The nostalgia for football is stronger than ever. Fans want to connect with their favorite team and era in an authentic way," explained Steve Mason, VP/GM Commercial & Embelex, Avery Dennison. "For years we have seen unofficial versions of these fonts in circulation, but now clubs, retailers, and fans can have access to the real ones, produced with the same high standards as the current embellishments of the Premier League."
"This launch is much more than a simple nod to history: it is about celebrating the legacy of the Premier League and giving fans a tangible way to relive iconic moments. With the growing popularity of retro jerseys, the demand for authentic details has never been higher. Avery Dennison is ensuring that every number and letter on these jerseys reflects the quality and mastery seen on the field during this golden era of football," Mason continued in the official statement. The Premier League's move is a strong one, highlighting how fans' desires are currently focused on the past, and it could launch a new trend in various European leagues that have a unified font. It will certainly be strange to see a jersey from 2026 with the names and numbers of almost twenty years before printed on it.
