The Chosen (number) One
39 years of Gigi Buffon, modern football icon
January 31st, 2017
To be born, raised and remain number ones is possible? Yes, if you’re Gianluigi Buffon. A few days ago it was his birthday, 39 years dead. How’s difficult to remain at the top of world football for 20 years? Too much. We can’t even imagine it, we humans. Yes, because he’s not human. He belongs to something superior, to that slice of people, sportsmen, which became legends very young and for years gave us emotions just doing what they do best.
Buffon stayed on the top, always, like a surfer on the perfect wave, without falling once, looking everyone else from above. Sometimes perhaps he slipped, losing a support, or blending for the tiredness, but without giving up. Gigi has always been discussed, underrated and every time he proved to be a champion, or better, a legend. Many people born with talent, some are capable of reaching great goals with train and sacrifices. But how many can stand on the top for 20 years? Very few. Some Gods’ chosen like Valentino Rossi, Roger Federer, Michael Jordan.
To be hungry, to never give up, never be satisfied: those are the rules to remain on top. Gigi Buffon has his next goals very clear in his mind: to win the sixth Scudetto in a row with Juventus, to win the next Champions League and to get to Russian World Cup in 2018. He won’t probably get everything, but you can bet he’ll try and try even day to get closer to his goals.
