The Captain and the Truth
Last night, the TD Garden bid farewell to one of Celtics' legends
February 6th, 2017
On February the 5th, 1999, a young Paul Pierce was just about to play his first game with Celtics’ shirt at the TD Garden in Boston. Yesterday night, on February 5th but 18 years later, The Truth has walked for the last time the parquet which gave him so many joys, like the championship, won with his beloved Celtics.
It’s pointless to say that it was an emotional evening, both for Massachusetts’ franchise’s former captain and all the supporters on Boston’s arena standings, all anxious to homage for the last time a player destined to see his shirts retired, on exhibit among the many banners that decorate the Garden’s ceiling. For the occasion, coach Doc Rivers has let Pierce played for the last seconds of the game - with the result secured for the Celtics - in order to let him sink the last three-pointer which made the Garden explode of joy. If there’d be a perfect way to say hello to whom loved you for 15 years, Paul Pierce has surely found it.
