In the history of sneakers, there’s a model interpreted and re-interpreted dozens of times, because of its revolutionary design. We’re talking about the Nike Air Max 1, a shoe born to maximize the value of the sports performance, but that - because of its unbelievable silhouette and the largest-volume airbag that provided unmatched cushioning - has become even more a design element.

It’s not a case that, in the first years of the new Millennium, designers from all around the world - from San Francisco to Tokyo - had the opportunity to re-interpret this sneakers’ icon according to their styles. All the Nike Air Max models were subjected to a change of look and among those, the atmos pair of 2007. Hirofumi Kojima, designers of the Japanese company, layered the Air Jordan III’s iconic elephant print onto a basic black and white, suede and leather upper set off by a jade Swoosh. Those sneakers immediately became an icon and were selected on Air Max Day as the design most people wanted to see return. So it does.

“Of course it was a great pleasure and the greatest honor for a person whose job is about sneakers”, said Kojima. “As with all Air Max x atmos series products, I believe the reason for the big success was the use of color and material that we skillfully selected from the perspective of fashion and sneakerheads”. With the Air Max 1 “Elephant” atmos, Nike produced a double limited edition to celebrate the collabo with Kojima, featuring and Air Max 1 with Jumpman logo and the Air Jordan III comes dressed in Nike's iconic Safari print. The atmos Air Jordan Air Max Pack releases March 18 at select retailers globally.
