25 years of Premier League history in one book
A unique collection of facts, statistics and records about the English league
March 23rd, 2017
This year, the Premier League - according to many, the best football league in the world - turns 25 years old. To celebrate it, two designers, Jonathan Roberts and Oliver Williams, gathered all the history of the championship in a coffee table book, with records, statistics and facts about players and teams which marked the history of the league. To realize (also with the help of Opta) it, they launched a Kickstarter campaign which you can support with different amounts of money, that will give you access to different presents. We asked Oliver to tell us something more about it.
How did you and Jonathan start to be interested in football?
We have always had an interest in football, but that interest grew into a real passion when we went to university.
When the idea of making a book concretized?
We came up with the idea and it developed when we were both working together at a London design studio. But to make that project a reality we had to leave our jobs their and become freelance, so we could dedicate some real time to the project.
What were the most problematic issue?
There were many issues we needed to problem solve during the project. This was from how to structure the content across the book to creating a visual language that we thought would communicate the volume of statistics in a clear, attractive and functional way.
Why did you choose Kickstarter?
There have been many great crowd funded publishing projects on Kickstarter, so we thought it was the best platform for us to do so too.
There will be other edition of this project? Maybe related to other leagues?
Providing the campaign goes well we don’t see why not! We see no reason why we can’t go out and do this for another league or even sport.
