The original Claudio Gentile shirt sold at 2.500 £
It happened on Classic Football Shirts, and we ask his founder to know more about it
March 31st, 2017
Last week on Classic Football Shirts it appears a new jersey, in the section dedicated to the original worn jersey. Those jerseys are obviously really rare, and they have a high symbolic value, other than a sentimental and commercial one.
There is an entire section dedicated to that kind of jerseys, with sale prices that generally are around 500 and 900 £, except for few items. One of those exceptions is the Juventus Claudio Gentile jersey from 1983/84 season. A historic one because ended with the winning of the first UEFA Cup Winners Cup in the history of the club. The shirts, presented with a video you can see below, was sold for 2.500 £ last night to a private collector.
We reached Danny Taylor, our friend and founder of CFS in order to know something more about this enormous affair. In particular, we were interested in how they come in possession of the shirt and how the price was established.
«We buy match worn shirts from a variety of sources, some of which are bought directly from ex-professionals who sell us shirts that they've exchanged with other players over the years. Pricing is very difficult for extremely rare match worn shirts as its difficult to predict what a collector is prepared to pay but its simply supply and demand that pushes the price up».
In this case the game was worth a lot, also influenced by the representativity of the jersey and by the iconicity of his sponsor and materials. A rare item, that in fact was not unsold.
