Cleveland Cavaliers to show Goodyear logo on jerseys

Cleveland Cavaliers to show Goodyear logo on jerseys The Akron-based tire company will be Cavs' first jersey sponsor

We’ve talked about this so many times, from the next season the NBA will revolutionize - at least partially - its uniforms’ look. Due to the new 8-year deal with Nike, the American league prepares itself to abandon the long-time relationship with adidas, that produced most of the jerseys we fell in love for in the last years.

Other than the brand change per se, next year the NBA will also face the first season with the possibility for franchises to put a sponsor patch - of course, due to payment - on the uniforms. The first announcements already arrived, like Philly (StubHub), Utah (Qualtrics) and Boston (General Electrics), and according to recent rumors the reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers also has found a partner for their jersey that, it better to remember, is one of the best-selling uniforms in the league, especially thanks to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

According to sources - the deal could become official in the next hours - to obtain the so-desired space on King James’ jersey has been Goodyear, a company that produces tires and that is based in Akron, Ohio. It’s probable that the geographical proximity could’ve helped to close the deal - LBJ himself currently lives in Akron - but you can be sure that the American company will have paid a lot of money to put its Wingfoot on wine and gold’s shirt. According to sources, the logo's presence in clear view on television while the Cavaliers play will be worth $7-10 million a year. Adding video games, trading cards, and social media, the advertising value could approach $30 million annually. Not bad for a 2,5 by 2,5 inch logo.

Nevertheless, to find a jersey sponsor doesn’t seem so easy, as the Cleveland Cavaliers are only the sixth team to finalize such kind of a deal. It has to be said, the next season is many months away.
