Reebok celebrates 25 years of the Shaq Attaq with a modern version
The restyling of Shaquille O'Neal's first signature shoe must be in your collection
May 23rd, 2017
Back in time, when these shoes were released, the personality of Shaquille O’Neal conquered America and the world. In 1992, after being drafted by the Orlando Magic, Reebok dedicated him a special signature shoe. The design of his first shoe was created by Judy Close, which of course had to meet him before being able to create anything, and bear in mind that at the time Shaq’s foot was already two times bigger that a regular man’s chest. Luckily, when the two met, there was also his family in the scene, and so The Big Aristotle had to restrict his extravaganza.
A few months after, Shaq crashed the backboard with a dunk and the name of the shoe was chosen after this play, to enforce his style of play. Of course, after this play, the shoe was sold out for several months. For his 25th anniversary, Reebok made a restyling fitted for today’s necessities in basketball. They’ve been made lighter thanks to the new material, and there’s more padding around the ankles.
On the shoe, there’s the iconic “Pump classic” technology, and its yellow colorway with the black stripe makes it very modern. I could list all the nicknames that he gave himself with all the motivations behind, or I could tell you about the time when he installed an aquarium with tropical fishes in the trunk of his car. I will just limit to tell you that these shoes are amazing and look good with an LSU t-shirt, the college where Shaq dominated on the court.
The Shaq Attaq Modern “Yellow Spark” is already available online at $160. Don’t sleep on this!
