In 1986, the She’s Gotta Have It movie, the first creative work by the writer and director Spike Lee, was out. Inside the movie, a comedy in which a woman had to chose among three potential lovers, appeared the character of Mars Blackmon, interpreted by Lee himself. Spike’s character, a Brooklyn-lover boy with a passion for the New York Knicks and the Air Jordan, was so successful that Nike decided to introduce him in some commercials for the Jordan alongside with His Airness himself. It was an unbelievable success, that changed everything forever.
Today, 30 years later the release of She’s Gotta Have It, Spike Lee wanted to celebrate this milestone collaborating with Nike for a pair of Air Jordan 1 dedicated to the Mars Blackmon character. "Those commercials that Michael Jordan and I did, changed everything," Lee told Sole Collector. "Everything changed. The world changed after those commercials. The culture changed. So, glad to be part of it.” The shoes are made with an unprecedented black/navy colorway and have a series of details inspired by the movie, like the 1/3 writing on the tongue, symbolizing how Spike’s character was one out of three potential lovers. On the side of the heel, there’s the iconic picture of Mars Blackmon with his hat.
Alongside with the Air Jordan 1, it will be release an entire She’s Gotta Have It collection, that will be available from June 16 for $300.
