If you thought that the Champions League games broadcasted on Facebook would’ve just become something illegal, well you’re wrong. Today the news comes directly from the US about an agreement between Zuckerberg’s social network and Fox for the live streaming broadcast of the European most important competition. Facebook adds this tournament to the football plateau that already counts MLS and the Mexican League.
The deal between with 21st Century Fox Inc.’s sports division includes two games per day in the stage group, four games of the last-sixteen, and other four games for the quarter-finals, all free in live streaming. Palo Alto’s incomes will mainly come from the selling of commercials spaces, that still are in discussion.
“Facebook has one of the major audiences of football enthusiasts globally, and this will allow broadcasting the Champions League also to the supporters that are not tuned for the game on tv”, said David Nathanson, Fox Sports business activities manager. A deal that seems Facebook’s firm start in the world of sports broadcasting rights, and that maybe will lead to a new way to watch football, finally away from the Pay Tv.
