Emoji Battle, Pt. II

Hassan Whiteside, Isaiah Thomas and Rudy Gobert competed for Gordon Hayward with a series of emoji Tweets

Emoji Battle, Pt. II Hassan Whiteside, Isaiah Thomas and Rudy Gobert competed for Gordon Hayward with a series of emoji Tweets

A few years ago, the NBA had its first Emoji Battle for the DeAndre Jordan case. While Clippers’ center was considering the possibility of signing for the Dallas Mavericks, the Twitter timeline was literally invaded by a series of emojis, starting from Clippers players - that suggested that they were going to convince Jordan to stay - and arrived at His Airness’ brand himself.

A few days ago, the situation repeated, even if in smaller dimensions. The protagonist this time has been Gordon Hayward, the Utah Jazz player who decided not to use his player option with the franchise, becoming a free agent. Apparently, there are three times that can be considered favorite to sign him, the Jazz themselves, the Miami Heat, and the Boston Celtics. And three players from the respective teams, they would be Rudy Gobert, Hassan Whiteside, and Isaiah Thomas, have been the protagonists of this Emoji Battle, Pt. II.

The first to begin was Rudy Gobert, that on his Twitter profile published a palm and a trash can (like saying “Miami is trash”), Celtics’ clover with the emoji of poop, that is smiling but not so polite, and the trumpet, the symbol of Utah, with the icon of the trophy. Of course, the tweet was flooded with appreciations and retweets.

The answer of his opponents arrived quickly though, with Celtics’ point guard Isaiah Thomas replying to Gobert with Boston’s successful past. In Thomas’ tweet, in fact, there was Miami palm again, with three trophy emojis, Boston’s icon with 17 titles, and the trumpet of Utah followed by a man with crossed hands. It explains itself quite well.

In the end, we also had Hassan Whiteside tweet, and Heat’s center decided to highlight the trophies won in the last 17 years - from 2000 to today, saying how Celtics won just one, Utah… Zero, again, and Miami won three. Among other things, Miami was the first team to meet with Hayward, and sources say that there’s a good feeling with the two parts. So, we don’t know where Hayward will play, but at least we enjoyed another episode of the never boring emoji battle.
