The original jersey's business is growing fast, and entrepreneurs are looking for new idea to go follow the trend. A very original idea came through Brian Watkins' mind: apply the business model of the sharing and renting economy to the original jersey market. So the American entrepreneur funded Rep The Squad: a new company that gives fans the opportunity to wear a new jersey each week by renting them through a monthly subscription.
Watkins - an e-commerce veteran - noticed the rise of nontraditional subscription rental businesses such as clothing and watches and decided the jersey market was ready for a similar disruption. In addition, the rise of prices of original jerseys did the rest:
"How many jerseys can you really afford to own?"
Watkins said in an interview with ESPN.
"Wouldn't it be nice to not only wear the players on your favorite team, but also be able to wear the jerseys of the players on your fantasy team?"
Rep The Squad officially started his business at the beginning of September offering NFL some teams' jerseys - including San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions - but the goal of the company is to enlarge the business into all the major pro sports team, including NBA and soccer. Now the monthly subscription costs $19.95 for adults and $16.95 for children if you are in the US give it a thought!
