Documentaries seem to be the new trend in football for the next years. After the reported deal between Juventus and Netflix for a docu-series, today was released the trailer of 89: a documentary about the final game of English championship in 1989 between Liverpool and Arsenal, the same game that inspired the beautiful movie Fever Pitch. Known as the 'title decider', the match is one of the most famous single games in the history of English football, with the two teams separated by three points at the top of the table ahead of their meeting on Friday 26th May 1989. The match had been postponed following the Hillsborough disaster and moved to after the FA Cup Final, giving the match the air of a domestic final.
Set against the culture, style and music background of the 1980s, 89 mixes archive and unseen footage from football games at the time. The movie is packed with revealing interviews and memories from the original squad, game officials, fans and the people there that night. With the participation of Lee Dixon, George Graham, Tony Adams and Michael Thomas, as well as Arsenal legend Ian Wright, the documentary is directed by Dave Stewart (The Humans Face, Origins of Us) and executive produced by former Arsenal right-back Lee Dixon and football correspondent Amy Lawrence.
