Many National teams are refreshing their image waiting for the Russia 2018 World Cup. After Italy released its brand new Scudetto earlier in October, now Japanese National Team released its new crest for the World Cup.
It is a light rebrand: the shape of the crest is more strict, the perimetral yellow becomes gold and "Japan" with the latin alphabet and not Japanese was add on the top of the crest. The symbol of Japan is still the Yatagarasu, a mythical three-legged raven that guided Emperor Jimmu to Mount Kumano. Yatagarasu is also the messenger of the supreme Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu.
The rebrand of the football national is part of wider image rebrand operated by the JFA - The Japan Football Association - to realize the "JFA's promise 2050" listed in the "JFA 2005 Annual Declaration" and the "JFA goal 2030" set for achieving that.
