According to an American insider, the US would like to organize a summer tournament for the non-World Cup teams

Close your eyes, breath, open them, try to forget that Italy won’t be at the World Cup, repeat over and over. That’s probably the king of autogenous training that we all did in the last few hours, since when the referee whistled the end of Italy-Sweden, and we started to realize the magnitude of Azzurri’s failure. Since that moment, the judgments, the gossips, and the proclamations went crazy, becoming an annoying background rumor comparing to the bulky awareness that the next summer there will be a massive hole in our days. Future’s nostalgia, as we said yesterday. That maybe it couldn’t be so empty after all.
According to American football insider - so, “soccer” - Steven Goff, in fact, the American Federation and the Soccer United Marketing could be seriously considering the possibility to organize a summer tournament for all the noble excluded to the World Cup, like Italy, Holland, Chile, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and, of course, the US. It could be some sort of Mundialito - the possible modalities have yet to be defined - to give supporters a chance to see their national teams on the pitch.
U.S. Soccer and Soccer United Marketing are, indeed, looking into "possibility" of bringing non-World Cup sides such as Italy, Netherlands, Ghana, Chile to U.S. next summer for tournament or series of matches. Probably a longshot but worth a try.

The possible problems could be decisive, like the probable obstructionism by the clubs and the players, that would be committed in international summer games without any price at stake. Also, the logistic matter could be difficult, as it normally takes much more than 6-7 months to organize this kind of events. It’s still a fascinating suggestion, especially because it will allow taking back some of the summer traditions of football summers, even if not just like the “original” ones.
