Gigi Buffon is on Eight by Eight Issue 12 cover
The American magazine celebrates the best goalkeeper in the world
November 27th, 2017
More than once we had the opportunity to talk about Eight by Eight (aka, 8by8), the New York-based magazine that wants to tell all the faceting of characters, fashion, and lifestyle of the Beautiful Game. And as for every respectable magazine, the place of honor of every issue is the cover, that last time was dedicated to Neymar Jr. A few days ago, Eight by Eight, that is published four times per year, unveiled the protagonist of the new issue, somebody we all know very well: Gianluigi Buffon.
The title of Issue 12, released a few days ago, is “Grazie Gigi: The Enduring Class of Gianluigi Buffon”. And our Number One, forced to a bitter retirement from the international stage after the disappointing World Cup failure against Sweden, takes the cover. Buffon’s one is just the second photographic cover of the American magazine, that gave the delicate job to Roger Neve. The same one that shot other Juventus players, in a photographic collection called “La Dolce Vita” and inspired by the famous movie by Fellini, that can be found inside of Issue 12.
Gigi Buffon’s interview was made by Paolo Bandini, who writes about Italian football for The Guardian, to whom the goalkeeper confessed to being pushed to play by the missing conquest of the Champions League, the only missing trophy in his unbelievable showcase. They didn’t talk only about football, though, as the discussion also touched more personal matters, like the difficulties in growing up under the medias’ spotlights ad Buffon’s imperfections, both as player and person.
Other than Buffon’s interview and the Bianconeri photo shooting, inside of Eight by Eight new issue you can find “Isco Inferno”, an article about Real Madrid’s Spanish talent, a special (“The Gambler”) about Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim, and “Coaching USA”, a research on the ways to produce better coaches in the States. And also photographies, illustrations, and infographics. A must have.
