Nike launches the EQUALITY and Black History Month campaigns

Two weeks away from the start of February, in the United States - more than ever shocked by President Donald Trump’s recent statements - the debate about equality is stronger than ever, also because in the last decades the second month of the year has been called Black History Month and dedicated to the celebration of the culture and rights of the Afro-American communities. Seen the complexity of the period that the US is living, the debate broadened, touching all the values of correctness and respect of equality. Values that Nike decided to support the EQUALITY campaign.

The Swoosh launched the Nike EQUALITY “Black History Month” collection, that includes footwear, apparel, and accessories in black or white with gold accents. Additionally, select styles feature graphics derived from cymatics, the visualization of sound waves, drawn from a recording of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. This was accomplished by using a cymatic camera to capture photos of the sound waves as those sounds passed through water. Composing this particular collection there are three pieces: a pair of Air Force 1 Low EQUALITY “August 28, 1963”, a pair of Air Jordan I High EQUALITY, and an EQUALITY Tee, that NBA players will wear during pre-game routines between January 11 and 15.

More, Nike will release the usual Black History Month collection which colors, used on three models of Nike Basketball, Running, and Sportswear, other than apparel and Joran brand accessories, are inspired by the Pan-American flag. Some models take the name from a date that remembers a significant event for the equality movement. The Air Jordan 1 Flyknit BHM /November 22, 2016, remembers the day Barak Obama gave Michael Jordan the Medal of Freedom. The KDX BHM / May 6, 2014, celebrates the day KD made his MVP speech. The LeBron XV BHM / July 13, 2016, the day of the 2016 ESPYs, when LeBron invited all the athletes to fight racisms, injustices, and armed violence. The Nike Kyrie 4 BHM has no date because they don’t want to look at the past but change and inspire future.

The 2018 BHM collection also includes long and short-sleeved tees, hoodies, and Jordan Brand hat, available from February 1. As for the sneakers, the Air Jordan 1 will be available from February 1, while the three other models will be released on February 15.
