January 19th, 2018
One of the most awaited appointments of the NBA season - even with its highs and lows - the 2018 All-Star Game, is right around the corner. Last night, the two captains that will participate in the draft for the game, that this year will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, have been announced. Guess what, the two most-voted players in the NBA are also the protagonists of the last three NBA Finals, Steph Curry, and LeBron James. Alongside the two captains, the NBA announced the members of the starting fives, while the reserves will be announced on Tuesday night and the teams will be composed next week.
This year’s voting, that kept the classic modalities with a 50% of the votes from the fans, 25% from the players, and 25% from the media, expressed a very clear opinion: LeBron and Steph are still the most hyped players in the NBA. Nevertheless, there are still some surprises and interesting notes. One of these has to be the first participation of “The Process” Joel Embiid that, even if he’s having a great season with the 76ers, also benefits of a massive social popularity, that helped him become a starter. It’s not a case that, since he was announced as an All-Star, several Twitter users remembered what Rihanna told him in 2014: “Come back when you're an All-Star”. You got it.
For a player that will participate for the first time, there’s another one that has just made the history of the most consecutive participations to the All-Star Game. Of course, it’s King James, that has become the record holder with his 14th consecutive ASG presence. Other than the Chosen One, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Embiid has been voted for the East. In the West, alongside with captain Curry, there are his teammate Kevin Durant, James Harden and the duo from the New Orleans Pelicans: Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. So, we’ll see the captains choices next week during the draft and the teams' compositions: #TeamLeBron and #TeamSteph.
