When a few days ago Ronaldinho Gaúcho announced his permanent retirement from professional football, our all minds have been crossed by a moment of his career we’re particularly bond to. An awesome goal, one oh ‘his’ free kicks, or one of his many funambulist dribbling, nutmegs, elasticos and all the other beautiful things he has done with a football at his feet. And to celebrate the very magic that characterized Dinho’s career as a footballer, Nike Football decided to launch a collection dedicated to him: the Nike 10R City Collection.
These models of five-a-side football boots, based on the silhouette of the LegendX, wants to travel through all the fundamental steps of the Brazilian’s career, all the cities that contributed to bringing his magic all around the world. The first two stages are Porto Alegre when everything began and where is hometown teams is, and Paris, where Ronaldinho lived his debut in European football. The choice to use a five-a-side football boot is due to Ronaldinho’s football origins, literally grown with a ball at his feet. “I used to play in the streets all the time,” says Ronaldhino of his childhood. “We didn’t have video games, Internet and all those types of distractions, so I was always playing”.
And with the abilities he got on the streets, Ronaldinho made his way into professional football, initially playing for his hometown team, Grêmio. “Porto Alegre is where I come from and where all my childhood friends remain. It’s where I became a professional player, I won my first titles and got my first-ever appearance for Brazil too”. Then the travel to Paris - “The first city I lived outside of Brazil” - where Ronaldinho met European football, at the Tour Eiffel’s feet.
This Nike collection embodies Ronaldinho’s life and philosophy. Both shoes feature a red, orange and yellow stitching, respectively representing family, music, and joy. Dinho’s personality also comes out through the “I play with music in my head” writing, written in Portuguese in the “Porto Alegre” shoe and in French in the “Paris” one. The shoe is completed by R10 branding, hang loose symbol on the insole and, of course, Nike’s Swoosh.
