A Mercurial history

When Nike Football presented the new “Fast AF” pack it was immediately clear that particular boot was missing: the Mercurial Vapor. The Swoosh’s iconic silo, in fact, is just about to unveil its latest revolution, after radically modifying the idea of football boot itself in the last 20 years, since its debut in 1998.

After all, the very characteristic of mutability is part of the “Mercurial” brand, that inspired its features from its first big testimonial’s physical and technical features: Ronaldo. Just like the boot at his feet, the Brazilian champion was able to watch every action with patience, then unleashing his instinct at the right time, with unmatchable speed.

Nike revolutionized the idea of football boot, changing what used to be the standards of the time and finding a way to favor speed on the pitch. First with the use of synthetic kangaroo leather and then with the reduction of the soleplate’s thickness, almost cut by half than before.
