In modern football, there’s always more need for a long-term planning, also for the best club in the world, especially when it comes to financial matters. That’s why, in a long interview with Bloomberg, Barcelona’s president Josep Bartomeu spoke about the long-term plans of the Blaugrana club, in terms of sales volume and regarding the renewal of the club’s structures.
It’s particularly interesting the part regarding Barcelona’s actual facilities that, according to a plan announced months ago, should undergo a heavy renovation. The Nou Camp, even being one of the most charming stadiums in the world, is also a quite old building, that surely needs some improves. The Espai Barça (Barça Space) foresees the complete renovation of the stadium, a new arena - used for example by the basketball team - and works on a part of the city, for an overall investment of €600M. That’s why the club is trying to sell the Nou Camp’s naming rights for a figure close to the €300M, covering at least half the investment.
All these business affairs should bring to the second matter debated by Bartomeu: the reaching of the billion euro income in 2021. According to the Blaugrana president, the Catalan club could reach this goal even before, “to win the Champions League again”, said President Bartomeu. “Our main rival is the Premier League, that has more incomes and an unbelievable global expansion”.
