The NBA fined Mark Cuban for $600K

If Mark Cuban doesn’t do or say something to be heavily fined by the NBA every year, he doesn’t seem to be happy. The one got a few hours ago by the volcanic Dallas Mavericks’ owner, though, may be one of the highest ever, as the bill was $600K high. The reason is quite serious, as the NBA hasn’t loved Cuban’s recent comments about Mavs’ will to “tank”, that would mean voluntary losing the games to have better chances for the 2018 draft.

During a chat in the House Call With Dr. J podcast on Monday, Mark Cuban told the NBA legend, Julius Erving, how losing was “the best option” for his Dallas Mavericks. And even knowing he was going into troubles, Cuban wanted to say how things have gone: “Adam Silver would hate hearing that, but I at least sat down and I explained it to them. And I explained what our plans were going to be this summer, that we're not going to tank again. But being transparent, I think that's the key to being kind of a players owner and having stability”.

The comments, even if admirable for their honesty, weren’t liked by Silver and the NBA management, that must have taken them as an attempt - maybe unintentional - to influence the continuation of the regular season. The Dallas Mavericks now have aan18-40 record and are among the seven teams that are looking to get the first pick in the 2018 draft.
