During the Christmas holidays, there are many habits that are repeated year after year, giving our feasts a sweeter savor. And as we are football addicts, the most waited habit of all is the Premier League, a championship that has never stopped during the holidays, making the Boxing Day (December 26th) a proper British tradition. Now, though, the Football Association, the Premier League, and the Football League look to have reached an agreement, bringing the winter break to the UK.

There’s no reason to despair, though, as the three institutions of English football have decided to place the winter break in February, leaving the schedule for the Christmas holidays intact. According to English media reports, the Football Association established that during the fifth-leg of the FA Cup there will be no replays and that in the first weeks of February - right before the return of the Champions League - the Premier League will split in two, with five games played one week and five the week later, giving every team the chance to have at least 13 days of rest without a single game.

This, of course, has been made to preserve the footballers’ energies for the final rush in the league, the national cups, and the Champions League, but mostly to help the many English players that will compete in the 2020 European Championship and 2022 World Cup. The winter break, in fact, will be introduced from the 2019/20 season and would like to help England national team to win something on an international level, unless a resounding accomplishment in the Russian World Cup. Will it be enough to make the Three Lions roar again?
