Los Angeles FC's first football game ever
The new LA-based club made its debut last night in Seattle, playing its first game in the Major League Soccer
March 5th, 2018
When we listed the five valid reasons to watch the Major League Soccer this year, one of these was the presence of Los Angeles Football Club. For many reasons, that ranges from aesthetic - just have a look at their adidas kits to see what we’re talking about - the context, as nothing that happens in LA, can be defined as normal, and particularly to the fact that we’re talking about a club artificially made four years ago, which fans decided to support it even before its first game. But now, it played its first game.
It happened last night in Seattle against the Sounders and, of course, it has been a historic moment for the club and the city. Actually, LAFC already played some pre-season game, but the one played yesterday was its proper debut in the MLS. For us, it’s some sort of inconceivable fact, as the most part of the teams that we support or know in Europe have decades of history behind them. Of course, it’s not the same in the US, and it’s odd to think that this could actually happen within a few years to the Miami team, founded by no one less than David Beckham, that today is just a project on paper, but that will actually play in the league within a few seasons.
Back to Los Angeles FC, no one could’ve ever thought of a better debut. The black and golds, in fact, left Seattle with three points, a stunning goal scored by Diego Rossi and the cherry on top of a perfect marketing operation. Of course, it’s too soon to judge the squad - that isn’t still so good - or the remaining of the season, but it’s still the first game ever played by Los Angeles Football Club. And with a stunning jersey… Just saying.
