Major League Poll
A ballot from ESPN revealed all the preferences of the American football league's footballers
March 22nd, 2018
For the fourth consecutive season, during the pre-season the American broadcaster ESPN made a survey, in an absolutely anonymous form, on 104 players of Major League Soccer: all the components of 22 franchises out of 23, because also this time the New York City FC have denied the possibility to participate. A project that at the moment we are struggling to imagine can take hold even in the Italian Serie A and that has involved many very tickles topics, very useful to do a little 'point of the situation in an authentic and transparent way: among many questions, was asked an opinion on the status of the championship and the senior national team, the opinion of each player on the use or not of the VAR, a report on the use of young players and how the salary cap system goes forward. But more than anything, who are the players, and therefore the most overvalued and the most underrated ones.
With 11% of the preferences, reasoning also on the basis of what has been earned and how it was placed during the last season with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Mexican Giovani dos Santos was considered the 'most overrated player', followed a short distance by former AS Roma Michael Bradley of the Toronto FC. As for the 'most underrated player', however, Ignacio Piatti was the first to stand out: someone will remember him with the Lecce shirt in the two-year period 2010-2012, now he is one of the leaders of the Montreal Impact. In the second place, Dax McCarty of the Chicago Fire was much appreciated.
Among the many curious answers that have emerged: 63% of the players agree with the system of promotions and relegations, Sebastian Giovinco and David Villa the toughest opponents to face, Patrick Vieira the coach from which most of the respondents would like to be coached, Kansas City FC was the most difficult stadium where to play, Leo Messi the player everyone would like to see in MLS.
