2018 has been a magical year for Manchester City, that turned its dominance over Premier League into the trophy lifting in May, breaking an unbelievable series of records and confirming itself as one of the best teams in the history of the English championship. After presenting the home kit that the reigning champions will wear from August 10, Nike also unveiled the new away jersey, inspired by a decisive moment in the history of the club.

In fact, the new away kit is inspired by the one used during the 1998-99 promotion playoff against Gillingham. After being down 2-0, Manchester City was able to recover the game then winning at penalties, conquering the promotion to Division One and somehow starting the story we all know today. The ‘dark blue’ shirt is interrupted by two thin vertical ‘volt yellow’ stripes and a light blue one featured both on the front and the back of the jersey. The shorts recalls the dark blue of the shirt, while the socks feature the volt yellow with a blue stripe in the middle.

Other than footballers from the male and female team, the new kit will be presented by some kids from the City in the Community program in New York, that had a chance in football thanks to the pitch built by the Citizens at Lexington Academy, in Harlem, back in 2010. The new kit will make its debut in the International Champions Cup friendly match against Liverpool.
