Why do the Mexican Liga players have three-digit numbers on the jersey?
There's a very simple reason behind this phenomenon which is becoming a habit
August 30th, 2018
Surely you already know: the numbering of the game uniforms follows different rules depending on the championship. In the Mexican Liga, (unlike Italian league or the Spanish league, for example, where no player from the first team is allowed to wear numbers above 30) there is no limit and it's for this reason that it's easy to find something funny. More than defenders with the number 10 or Zamorano's famous 1+8, but three-digit numbers.

The recent clash between two Mexican sides Club Queretaro and Lobos UAP was only the last occasion in which we saw someone playing with three numbers on their backs, Marcel Ruiz with his 306: the 'fault' is the rule according to which they must give to all players, even to those of the youths, a permanent number. If the player in question is registered among those of the first team, then he can choose a number between 1 and 99, otherwise, he will have to take a higher number, which he will inherit in the case of the internal shift between one roster and another.
And in recent years, as we said, the phenomenon has become quite frequent so as not to be considered an exception: in addition to the tweet we posted on dating back to 2015, among the most famous are undoubtedly America's Edson Alvarez with his 282, Atlas' Diego Barbosa with the 289 and UNAM Pumas' Omar Islas with the 301.
