LeBron James designed a sneaker with the Harlem Fashion Row
Supporting women's talent and strenght
September 5th, 2018
"I know where I come from, I know who I am and I am comfortable with my story. For this I want to be a platform for those who does not have the means or the voice to make himself heard"
There are the words pronounced by LeBron James last week in Paris, during the French leg of his More than an athlete Summer Academy.
Today LeBron is making headlines again thanks to his costant social action on the occasion of the presentation of the new HFR X LeBron 16. The sneaker is the result of the collaboration between the Lakers player and the Harlem Fashion Row, the New-York-City-based fashion collective created to showcase the work of multicultural designers, especially of women that have a strong impact on the community. The marriage was natural, as if these HFR x LeBron 16 were the symbol of a message of peace created by women who want to feel free to communicate through their art, against the limits and the rules connected with gender or race. One man is very happy to support them:
"I believe that African American women are some of the strongest people on earth. I grew up around some amazingly strong women and am inspired by the strength I see around me, including my mom, wife and daughter.”
HFR selected three designers to tackle the project — Kimberly Goldson, Felisha Noel and Undra Celeste Duncan — based on their previous work and passion for sport. To help out in the design process there were also Meline Khatachourian, Nike basketball footwear designer, and James Jason Petrie.
The HFR x LeBron 16 was presented yesterday at the Harlem Fashion Row Showcase Gala, during which James was honored for his influence and contribution to the community. The Flyknit upper of the LeBron 16 dyes in white, enriched by golden details and a leather ankle strap with a golden buckle. To be noted, the symbol of the lion, King James's spirit animal, featured on the heel of the sneaker. The sneaker will be released September 7 as an exclusive on SNKRS in North America and on nike.com for the price of $200.
