Girona-Barcelona will be the first La Liga match played in the USA

***UPDATE***: In the last few months many negative feedbacks had already arrived, starting from Florentino Perez and following with the president of the Spanish FA, Rubiales, now also the FIFA president Gianni Infantino shows their intentions to block the idea to play games outside the national boards, discussed it during the counsil held in Rwanda, in fact denying Tebas' initiative. The match between Girona and Barcelona, therefore, will not be play in the US: "I'm strongly opposed to this and I deny any permit to play the Girona-Barça game in Miami. Official games of a league must be played inside the country".

After the official agreement signed between La Liga and Relevent Sports, just a few days ago, according to which at least one seasonal game will be held in the USA and Canada, for the next 15 years, now the first rumors have started to circulate about the first 'American' challenge between two Spanish teams. And no, it will not be the Super Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid but an unprecedented derby català between the Barça and Girona. This is what was written by the Catalan newspaper Sport, according to which the official program will be announced soon: the match will be held on January 27, 2019, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the home of the MLS franchise of the Miami Dolphins (the whose owner, Stephen Ross, is the founder of Relevent).

Also according to the Catalan newspaper, Girona will gain around 4 million euros. For its season ticket holders (44% of Girona is officially bought by the City Football Group) will be made available 1,500 free flights. Supporters will have to pay a deposit of 500 euros, or 600 euros if they choose to have an accommodation in Florida, which will then be returned at the end of the trip. For the Girona fans who decide not to make the American trip, a sort of very favorable compensation has been proposed: 5,000 free tickets released by Barcelona for the first seasonal derby between the two teams, scheduled at Camp Nou on 23 September, plus an additional 20% discount on the seasonal ticket. For those who choose not to participate at the Barcelona clash, neither at the American match, the discount on the subscription price will be 40%.
