A few weeks ago we talked about the ambitious project by Florentino Perez to renew the Santiago Bernabeu, an idea absolutely in the wake with that of many other Spanish teams that in the last years have worked on their venues a lot, creating modern and spectacular stadiums. It happened with the Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano, with the Bilbao's New San Mames, and with the San Sebastian's Anoeta, now it could be the moment of Barcelona FC, which has absolutely no intention of being the only one with no future plans. Indeed, the Catalan team made no secret of being increasingly ambitious and to continue to maintain levels of excellence, planning the construction of the best sporting complex in the world.
Last Saturday during the General Assembly of the Barça members Josè Maria Bartomeu presented the project 'Espai Barça': a massive restyling work that will cover not only the Camp Nou but also the other facilities of the Catalan club, located in the neighboring area. The current stadium of Barcelona (built in 1957) will not only increase its capacity to 105,000 spectators, maintaining the first position among the stadiums with the biggest attendance in Europe, but will be the subject of a much broader renovation: structural changes that will also concern the stands, installation of a roof and a circular screen, the creation of a lot of of new indoor and outdoor commercial spaces and an underground car park. But that's not all, because the project, which will not be ready before the 2023/2024 season, will also concern the Mini Estadi and the Palau blaugrana. The first one, the small stadium where usually play the B, the Youth and the women's teams, will be demolished and built again, will take the name of Johan Cruijff and will be the first step of this long working course, about 8 km far from Camp Nou; the second one, an indoor structure where the basketball team mainly plays, will rise in place of the Mini Estadi right next to the Camp Nou and can hold about 12,000 people. In the video of more than 4 minutes that was made specifically to explain how and when all the changes will take place, the extent of the renewal is also apparent for the area surrounding the facilities called Les Corts, where the Campus Barça will also be located. The entire complex will stay in the west side of the Catalan city, which will remain perfectly connected thanks the underground line number 9. The estimated figure to complete the work exceeds 600 million euros.
