The new Mainz crazy jersey for the 2019 Carnival
A different way to celebrate the famous carnival of the city
February 5th, 2019
When FSV Mainz, in the 1996-97 season, played in the second German tier, besides having in the roster Jürgen Klopp, he wore very special jerseys, with white and red squares, similar in design to those of Croatia. The model was taken by the team of the German city to celebrate the local Carnival, one of the most famous in Europe, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Compared to the white and red model to which it is inspired, the kit presented in recent days also adds blue and yellow, for a typical color scheme of the holiday. The crest is unchanged in the colors and is positioned on the left side of the chest, while the Lotto logo is inserted both on the right in black and on the sleeves in white. It also changes the color of the shorts, proposed in the blue colorway, while the socks that complete the kit are in red, white, blue and yellow horizontal stripes.
The jersey was made in a limited edition, the 1111 available items were snapped up in less than 2 days but the fans could see it on the pitch this Friday when Sandro Schwartz's players will wear it in their home match against Bayer Leverkusen. Two are the elements that make this shirt unique, the first is the replacement of the sponsor Kömmering placed at the center of the shirt with "Unser Traum Lebt", literally "Our dream continues", the club's motto reached its tenth consecutive season in Bundesliga. The second element that pays homage to the colors of the carnival and to the tradition of the city is the word "Henau" on the back of the collar, a term used as a greeting during the holidays.
