Real Madrid will debut in the women's football soon
The Galacticos join women's football by merging with a recently promoted Primera División team
June 26th, 2019
The directive board of Real Madrid on June 25 approved the acquisition of a female team. A historic decision that confirms the great growth of women's football, also helped by the enormous development of the Spanish movement. In fact, in Madrid on 17th of March the Atletico Madrid women's teams (the Colchoneras were champions of Spain for three years) and Barcelona (Champions League finalist) had managed to fill the entire Wanda Metropolitano with over 60 thousand spectators, breaking every previous record and giving life to a unique event for all the Iberian women's football. A breakthrough season, crowned by the World Cup that are taking place in France and in which the Spanish Selection has reached the round of 16 before coming out defeated by the USA.
In a note, the blancos club made official that the project will be implemented starting in July 2020, at which time the final merger with the Club Deportivo Tacón will take place. The newly promoted club in the Primera División based in the Madrid's suburbs, however, will play home matches at Real Madrid's Ciudad Deportiva as early as next season. Florentino Perez still needs the definitive approval of the Spanish Football Federation, and the intention is to make a gradual process calculated in the smallest details, given the great resonance that women's football is acquiring. To start already in the 2019/2020 season it was indeed necessary for the merengues to close the deal by June 30, too tight deadlines given the urgency of having to convene a general meeting in a few days. The choice of the Madrid company, which paid something like € 400,000, is therefore to proceed calmly and with more planning, aiming for the 2020/21 season.
Will Real Madrid manage to build a women's Galacticos team, aiming for the best in European football to try to stop the European dominance of Olympique Lyon?
