The Welsh Football new graphic identity
Not only the badge, the British FA adopted a totally new visual representation
September 6th, 2019
Almost ten years after the last rebranding, which took place in 2010, the Football Association of Wales made another restyling: the new graphic identity that includes both the National team and the home leagues and competitions has focused strongly on the elements of tradition, above all the red dragon. Unlike the one that appears in the Welsh flag in a horizontal position (what in the local language is called Y Ddraig Goch), the stylized dragon is the main 'protagonist' of the new Wales badge, but in a vertical position. Literally, "an icon of strength, support and resilience, which embraces the past while looking to the future".
Unlike the old crest, enclosed by a thick green frame containing many yellow daffodils, the external shield is much more minimal, while the writing 'Gorau Chwarae Cyd Chwarae' (whose translation is 'the best players play together') has completely disappeared, the historic Welsh National motto that will now feature only in the back of the game uniform collar. The conversion process will be gradual, will also affect the FAW digital channels and the Colliers Park of Wrexham, the federal football center. To see the new 'updated' kits, however, we will have to wait until November 2019.
National leagues and Cups have been given their own independent identity to make them real individual entities, free to grow and develop independently. Distinguished by the common use of Daffodil in their respective logos, also the Cymru Premier, Cymru North and Cymru South, but also the Welsh Cup have changed their visual identity.
