The first project of the new San Siro Stadium

The Populous project is one of the final proposals

The first project of the new San Siro Stadium The Populous project is one of the final proposals

After 70 years of history, San Siro will be torn down, to leave room for a new stadium, which will host the home matches of AC Milan and Inter Milan. The new building will rise in the area adjacent to the current Giuseppe Meazza, and from today we have the first images of one finalist project
A video revealed the (unofficial) project of the American architect Populous, with a portfolio of 1325 stadiums in 34 countries around the world, including the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, inaugurated last April. The renderings show us a crystal palace, inspired by the symbols of the city of Milan such as the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The video also shows how the project is not limited to the stadium but to a district open 365 days a year, with office, squares and a hotel, reachable by tram and the M4 stop San Siro Stadio Premium Mediaset.
The new San Siro, with reduced dimensions compared to the one completed for the 1990 World Cup (maximum height of 30 meters compared to the current 68), will be the most sustainable sports facility in Europe, with zero emissions, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation system and a large number of green areas.

At first glance, the façade recalls that of the Matmut-Atlantique of Bordeaux, with details that in the case of the Populous project recall the Gothic architecture and the spires of the Duomo. The architecture will then recall that of the current plant, in particular, the bleachers of the Second ring. To discover the official projects, it will be necessary to wait until September 26, when the proposal of the Italian-American duo Progetto CMR + David Manica will be presented at the Politecnico di Milano-Bovisa. The ceremony will be broadcast in streaming on Milan and Inter official websites.
