Clairefontaine is a streetwear runway
The French National team training centre is becoming the symbol of the football-fashion trend
November 12th, 2019
The French national football team is not only the best in the world but also the coolest for some time, thanks to a generation of players who increasingly embodies the idea of a sportsman as an influential media not only in the pitch. At the beginning of this week, the 23 players of CT Didier Deschamps arrives as usual in Clairefontaine, the sports center born in 1988 and located about 50 kilometers from Paris, to prepare for the matches against Iceland and Turkey. The arrival in Clairefontaine, for it's being a unique event, planned as a Fashion Week, has turned into a moment of visibility for the players of France, who on their arrival show off the latest streetwear garments and limited edition sneakers , in front of photographers waiting for them like at the end of a catwalk.

The looks of the French players exactly reflect the trends of street fashion, with sportswear garments made by high fashion brands, the absolute prevalence of Nike sneakers, fleece and oversize sweatshirts. Kingsley Coman joins the center with a pair of Air Jordan 1 mid matched with a cream-colored fleece, the same item also chosen by Benjamin Mendy, who showed off the Burberry monogram. Kylian Mbappé in total-Nike completes the look with the 17 Future of his friend LeBron James while the Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet chose a more clean model like the Air Force 1. Among the most fashionist of the team is Presnel Kimpembe, which has made hypebeast fans mad with a purple denim jacket by Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh, and was one of the few to wear French brands together with Alphonse Areola - with his varsity jacket by Balmain - and Olivier Giroud, with Moncler down jacket and sneaker Balenciaga Speed Trainer.
Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan got out of the car with a tracksuit-pants suit by Gucci, N'Golo Kanté and Nabil Fekir also chose a comfortable suit, for the first Hugo Boss signed, for the second D&G, paired with a Dsquadred2 cap. Steve Mandanda has chosen a great classic like the Nike Blazer x sacai, as well as Leo Dubois, among the new faces of this National team with his 70s mustache and the Yeezy Boost 350. Wissam Ben Yedder rocked an oversized Burberry down jacket, while the only casual look was the one worn by Le Petit Diable Antoine Griezmann.
Despite missing Paul Pogba, the arrival in Clairefontaine once again was the demonstration of how the players have become communicative figures on and off the pitch. Treated as influencers for their media potential, their arrival reaches the maximum of hype, in an exclusive event and not as frequent as national competitions are. It is, therefore, no coincidence that the players arrived one at a time, each with their own FFF car and their own space to be photographed, as in a fashion show.
This model of communication, which conceives athletes in their way of being strong, cool and even trendsetters is influenced by the NBA, in which the look of the players becomes the main extra-basketball theme of the pre-game, as well as a moment for brands to surprisingly present new collaborators, sneaker or custom models.
One of the first clubs to make the most of the time of arrival at the stadium was Paris Saint-Germain, which in the past used the players to launch its collaboration with Jordan in the pre-game and to publicize the new season of Money Heist. More recently, Juventus has not waited for the beginning of the match to unveil its partnership with Palace, but has made the players parade through the tunnel, with the fans on the sides waiting for Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates.
Appointment to the next March 29th, for the next International break, for the next Clairefontaine Fashion Show.
