At the cerimony the Golden Ball in Paris, among the big favorites there will also be Virgil van Dijk, after a 2019 dominated with the Dutch National team and with Liverpool FC, crowned by the victory of the Champions League. Waiting to find out if it will be him, Leo Messi or teammate Momo Salah, Nike has released a new episode of the series "Birthplace of Dreams" which has as its protagonist in the dutch number 4.
Like the other episodes of "Birthplace of Dreams", which featured great athletes like Rafael Nadal, Giannis Antetokounmpo or Caster Semenya, VVD traces its childhood through the pitches and places where it began its career.
The defender talks about himself starting from Breda, the city where he was born and where he began to get noticed before reaching the Tilburg Academy, the place where the documentary ends. During the interview, Van Dijk talks about his difficult beginnings and his desire to play in the Premier League. The footballer reveals how he was one step away from being fired from the academy because he was not considered up to it, then, in full "Just Do It" style, the Dutch national captain explains how he had to fight hard first at Groningen, at Southampton and finally to Liverpool, shaking off the criticisms for the £ 75m paid by the Reds in 2018.
Walking through the streets of an unusually sunny Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk also remembers the two Champions League finals, from the disappointment of the 2018 defeat to the 2019 success against Tottenham.
