All collaborations presented at the Nike Future Sport Forum 2020
The future of athleisure according to Off-White™, Alyx, sacai, Undercover and Ambush
February 6th, 2020
Ahead of the Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Nike presented at the Future Sport Forum 2020 five collaborative capsules designed by Virgil Abloh, Matthew Williams, Chitose Abe, Jun Takahashi and Yoon Ahn respectively. Each of these designers has given its own interpretation of the concept of sportswear by combining the search for technological innovations and materials references to the rich Nike heritage and creating, in addition to the actual clothing, as many sneakers whose drop has not been announced but that is expected to take place this summer. Together with the five designers presenting their collaborations, the photos of the evening also show Hiroshi Fujiwara, Travis Scott, Drake and Simon Porte Jacquemus who, in 2018, designed the uniforms for French's national soccer team.
Two of the best items have been designed by Virgil Abloh: the first is the Off-White™ x Nike "Rubber Dunk" inspired by the silhouettes of the skate sneakers that mixes the classic Dunk sole with the Air Unit of the Air Max and a sports jacket with an integrated air system and decorated with graffiti-style graphics. Remarkable detail is the deformed Swoosh on both the sports jacket and the pants. Yoon Ahn was inspired by motocross, with a women's capsule that includes a jacket, top and trousers and a pair of fully pink Ambush x Nike Dunk High with plastic Swoosh that extend beyond the heel. sacai's Chitose Abe also opted for a feminine capsule with a bomber jacket paired with a long pleated skirt and VaporWaffle already seen during Paris Fashion Week.
Matthew Williams of 1017 Alyx 9SM presented the most innovative of all capsules, with a hybrid sneaker with a square platform sole that resembles the Waffle Racer, equipped with an Air Unit and with a double upper in mesh open on the sides and thin laces present in two colorway. The outerwear of the capsule, on the other hand, has, in full Matthew Williams style, a linear but highly layered structure while the black pants are convertible to shorts thanks to a zip system. Jun Takahashi presented two capsules, one running from the Gyakusou line, with a rich black and blue Nike Zoom X whose black and blue upper has transparent elements and asymmetriclas; while he has created under the name of Undercover a capsule dedicated to the Japanese basketball team characterized by voluminous front pockets that continue from the chest on the pants.
All collaborative capsules and sneakers presented at the Nike Future Sport Forum 2020 will be made available later in the year and even if the precise release dates are not known, it's possible that they will take place shortly before or at the Tokyo Olympics.
