Spike Lee's Instagram account was filled with tributes to Bryant in the days following the helicopter crash that prematurely slashed the life of the former NBA star and eight other people, including 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
The Atlanta director has always had a special relationship with the ex Lakers, so much so that he directed "Kobe Doin 'Work", a 2009 documentary in which an entire day of his life is told, including comments from the protagonist during the game with the Spurs. Just the Black Mamba had managed to win the Oscar in 2018 thanks to the short film "Dear Basketball", the letter with which he had decided to announce his retirement to the world.
Lee was presented last night at the 2020 Oscars with a hat, glasses and entirely purple dress and with a purple Gucci suit, personalized with a golden border to recall the colors worn by the Lakers number 8 and 24. The director of ''BlacKkKlansman'' has therefore chosen a very particular outfit to parade in front of the photographers of the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, adding to his suit also the number 24 embroidered both on the front and behind the jacket.
Even the shoes of the Nike Kobe Elite ''Strategy'' are a tribute to the legend of the Lakers, on an evening in which Bryant was remembered with his phrase: “Life is too short to stop and be discouraged, you have to give yourself a move, you have to go on".
