The New Amsterdam Football Club is born in New York

NISA - the National Independent Soccer Association, the third American football league - yesterday announced the birth of a new club in New York, the New Amsterdam Football Club (NAFC).

We asked Max Mansfiled, NAFC's Sporting Director, what prompted investors to focus on creating a new team in New York: ''I think the unlimited growth potential is quite exciting. Nobody knows where this project can go because it is so new and has so many albeit uncertain advantages. The culture of football in New York is booming with a melting pot of different cultures that come together in such a limited geographical landscape. The NAFC is a circle of workers and I think the demographic composition of the roster will represent its fans''.

''We have been planning the birth of a club for some time'', Mansfiled tells us, which continues: ''President Laurence Girard and our team have worked to create a platform to give players the opportunity US; we went to the UK to try to form a lower level club outside London, but we found it very perplexing to set up a club where Americans could showcase their talent. In the end we decided to go back to the States and create the NAFC''.

With the presentation of the club, their first logo was also unveiled, designed by the San Francisco football-brand designer Chris Payne who through his Twitter account said: ''I am very proud to have designed the logo of the New Amsterdam F.C. The owners and the team behind this project are really good. Enthusiastic to see the club grow and to see the NAFC competitions on the field in NISA in the post COVID-19''.

The new logo of the New Amsterdam Football Club is clearly designed ad hoc and draws inspiration from the classic football logos and the city of Amsterdam. The main object is the illustration of a Dutch sailing boat used by the first Dutch immigrants to reach the United States: ''The name of New Amsterdam pays homage to our old world values ​​and to our welcome of people from all walks of life'' Mansfield said.

In addition to the primary logo, Payne has also thought of an alternative one - on the same line as that of the Yankees - which features the letters NA.

''The COVID situation has definitely hit New York seriously. Hopefully the worst is behind us with the curve gradually flattening out, although we hardly expect a quick return to normal. I think we all hope to return to our everyday life, but we must understand that it will be a modified version for the next few months'', continues Mansfield, aware of the fact that his team can only take the field when the pandemic is totally over .

In the meantime, New Amsterdam FC will already take part in the virtual FIFA 20 championship organized by NISA starting from April 24th.
