The Nike 2020 kit of New Zealand Football
The usual design inspired by the Maori culture
May 11th, 2020
A few days ago, Nike launched the new kit of the New Zealand national football team, the usual mix of design and local culture. Although football is not a national sport, New Zealand's 2020 uniforms are always fascinating. The world in which Nike is called to combine modernity through design and culture which has always characterized one of the peoples closest to traditions is also fascinating.
Stylistic cleanliness, sobriety and evident Maori-inspired graphic references are the main elements of the home kit and the New Zealand away kit. Inside the white home shirt the word "Aotearoa" appears, that is to say the Maori name of New Zealand, while outside there are stripes that recall the spears of the Aboriginal people.
As for the dark away shirt, the zigzag design is much more evident also to create a clear separation - and also to approach a Nike lifestyle and streetwear vision - compared to the first jersey. Many consider it very similar to a knit concept already produced by Puma, except for the reasons that continue on the entire back of the shirt.
In addition to remembering some shirts of the German brand, the zigzag motif is often found in the latest masterpieces that Nike has produced for Nigeria, one of the most national jersey-hype of the last 20 years.
