With the resumption of the Premier League, from today we will have one more reason to follow Arsenal and more particularly Hector Bellerin, who for the umpteenth time shows how attentive and dedicated he is to non-football issues, in particular social and environmental ones.
Through a post on his Instagram account, the Spanish fullback has communicated that from here to the end of the season he will commit to plant 3000 trees for each game that will win his team, starting tonight when Arsenal will meet Manchester City.
The initiative was undertaken in collaboration with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that fights deforestation, which for the occasion has created a special platform to support the fundraising created by Bellerin.
According to statistics, 4500 acres of forest are eliminated every hour, leading to catastrophic effects on fauna, ecosystems and weather conditions and Bellerin, raised in Barcelona where he spent a long time in his grandfather's park, was immediately impressed by the cause brought next from One Tree Planted: ''I spent a lot of time in the garden planting trees and playing in the forests, so it's a problem very close to my heart. When I saw the great work done by One Tree Planted I realized it was something I wanted to be involved in. I hope that through my actions and using my platform, others will see how important it is to take care of our world and give to a cause that really affects us all''.
Commenting on Bellerin's commitment, the director of One Tree Planted, Diana Chaplin, said: "It's nice to know that there are champions who are dedicated to the environment in the world of sport. Hector's passion for nature goes beyond words''.
